Since the formation of the Society in 1995 we have delved into the history, art and music of the Beara peninsula and the achievements of her people in Ireland and the US. With this foundation we can now zoom out to the broader world of Irish America. In so doing our focus goes quickly to one who is so much a part of our personal, family and community lives that without this foundation of ours we may have taken his gifts for granted. The Boston Beara Society has adapted as it's logo an image of the
Cailleach Bheara,
the mythological figure who's petrified remains may still be seen in Kilcatherine in the Parish of
Eyeries
